Self-service coffee first introduced by a convenience store Seven-Eleven Japan about 5 years ago, is now sold at other convenience stores as well and has become a part of our daily life style in Japan.
People buy an empty cup at the cash register then poor some coffee by themselves with the machine placed in a corner of the store. The greatest points are its taste and price. Because it is freshly brewed, you can enjoy tasty coffee almost like a coffee you drink at a coffee shop, surprisingly at 100 yen! (about US$0.90)
You can choose from hot or ice, also Latte (about US$1.35).
With this price and quality, I don’t think the stores can make enough profit from the service itself. It’s supposed to increase the number of customers visit with this service, and make them buy other products together.
On the other hand, many coffee chain shops should have been taken many of their customers away by the convenience stores…
Do you have any coffee services at convenience stores like this in your country? If so, is it around 100 yen?
